Exterior Painting by a Trade That Works at Height
We should be straight about what this is and is not. We are not interior decorators, and we do not hang wallpaper. What we paint is the outside of the house: the masonry and roughcast walls, the gables and dormers, the fascias and gutters, the doors and exterior timber. The parts that need ladders, towers and a head for heights, which is exactly the equipment and experience a roofing firm carries every day.
That access is why homeowners ask us. A high gable end or a dormer cheek three storeys up in a town like Alva or Menstrie is a hard sell to a decorator with a stepladder. We are already set up for it, insured for it and comfortable doing it.
It also means the awkward jobs can be bundled. If we are up repairing roughcast or renewing a gutter, painting the elevation while the access is in place costs you far less than having two trades set up twice.
Preparation Is the Job
Exterior paint fails from underneath. Put good paint on a dirty, flaky or damp wall and it peels within a couple of winters. So the bulk of our time goes into preparation: washing down, scraping back loose and flaking material, stabilising powdery surfaces, filling cracks and letting repairs dry properly before any paint is opened.
We use exterior-grade masonry and timber paints suited to each surface, and we will tell you plainly which parts of the house need two coats, which need repairs first and which are not worth painting until an underlying problem, such as a leaking gutter soaking the wall, is fixed. Painting over a fault does not cure it, and we would rather lose a day's painting than hide a problem you will meet again.

Exterior Painting Questions
Can you paint roughcast walls?
Yes, and it is one of the jobs we do most. Sound roughcast takes masonry paint well once it is washed down and any cracks or blown patches are repaired. If the coat needs patching first we do that ourselves, so one quote covers the repair and the painting and the patch disappears under the finish.
How much does exterior painting cost in Alloa?
It depends on the wall area, the height and access, how much preparation and repair the surfaces need and the number of coats. A tired elevation with flaking paint takes far more preparation than a sound one. We look at the house first and give you a free written quote with no obligation.
When is the best time of year to paint outside?
Late spring to early autumn gives the most reliable weather in the Forth Valley, because exterior paint needs dry surfaces and a few dry hours to cure. We plan exterior painting around the forecast and will be honest if a week is not going to give the paint a fair chance.
